We, the undersigned, call on the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to begin the Community Governance Review now and complete it as quickly as possible, so Town Councils for Windsor and Maidenhead can be established in time for elections in May 2027.
Residents in Windsor and Maidenhead town centres currently have no town or parish council, unlike many surrounding communities. Town councils provide a stronger local voice and help shape local priorities such as community facilities, public spaces and planning.
A Town Council would not replace the Borough Council. It would provide a more local level of representation focused on the needs of Windsor and Maidenhead residents.
Residents in these areas also pay an “unparished area precept” through their council tax. While this funding is used locally, decisions about how it is spent are made centrally. A Town Council would ensure those decisions are made locally, with greater transparency and accountability.
Residents have been waiting many years for this level of local representation. We urge the Council to act now and give Windsor and Maidenhead a stronger local voice.
